Few days after the National Elections in May 2009, group of us met for an informal review of the election as two among the group had been involved in a nationwide campaign on Voter Registration and Education. At this discussion, we had listed a number gaps that are been left unaddressed for decades and decided to attempt parallel initiatives that would demonstrate qualitative and quantitative redressal with strategic community participation.
As a follow up of this discussion we called for a Consultation among an expanded pool of young activists. We had critical debates on India's Socio-Political, Economical, cultural Context, Electoral System, reviewed National Elections, Electoral Reforms in India and key areas and Platforms that this group can possibly engage in or contribute. At this consultation we had a debate on either making it a lose network of youth or to create an organisation for a concerted, systematic, sustained advocacy. The group chose the later and decided to call it “Parishkaran”. On August 6, 2009 the organisation was registered as the Public Charitable Trust. |
